Abstract:
Tommaso Traetta’s ‘Sofonisba’ (Manheim, 1762) and ‘Antigona’ (St. Petersburg,
1772) are among the best examples of reformatory operas of the second half
of the 18th century. The author shows the influence of different national traditions
on Traetta’s style giving the examples of the famous Manheim orchestra’s manner
of performance and also highly acclaimed vocal culture of Russian choral singing.
