Abstract: The article is devoted to a topical problem of peacemaking within the activities of the UN. Special attention is paid to the role of so-called “great empires” within the structure of organization, the author studies the historical retrospective and the modern meaning of this term. The author also analyzes the activities of the states, which form the constant elements of the Security Council in the sphere of protection of peace and peacekeeping.
