Abstract: The article discusses the new approach to teaching religious disciplines. Instead of retelling what was said by the authors of religious teachings the author of the article suggests a cultural, historical and personalized reconstruction of religious works. This approach is illustrated by an analysis of Theophan the Recluse’s work ‘The Spiritual Life and How to Be Attuned to it’.
