Abstract:
The object of this research is the early prose of S. S. Kondurushkin (1874-1919), journalist and writer, who served five years as a teacher in the schools of the Middle East, an active participant in Russia’s literary-social life, an employee of the newspaper “Rech”, war correspondent, author of several compilations dedicated to the Middle East, Russian Volga Region, Novaya Zemlya, and Siberia. The subject of this research is the techniques and approaches of creating the Middle East in the essays and stories, which were published for the first time in the journals “Russian Wealth”, “Russian Thought”, and “History Herald”. Reference of the Russian writer to the problems of the Middle East at the turn of the XIX – XX centuries, development of artistic techniques, reconstruction of the flavor and the corresponding elements of the narrative require indicating the methodology used in the article. Along with the traditional for academic literary studies comparative-historical, historical-cultural, imageological and biographical methods, the author turns to the colonial/postcolonial, as well as imperial/post-imperial formats of research, micro-history approach, “deliberate” and "distant” reading, as well as holistic analysis. The article is first to examine the artistic peculiarities of the early prose of S. S. Kondurushkin in the context of his interest in problems of the Middle East. Special attention is given to analysis of the essay “Damascus” (1903) that demonstrates that everyday life of the religion serves for the writer as a part of the Middle Eastern chronotope, within the structure of which there are not only historical time with its transformations, not only historical space and its modern modifications, but also the current events. Such articulation of the problem defines the novelty of this research and outlines its prospects in further examination of the Middle Eastern chronotope of Russian literature of the turn of the XIX – XX centuries, and academic pursuits dedicated to the creative path of S. S. Kondurushkin

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to the analysis of Buddhist motifs in one of the Buryat versions of the Epic of King Gesar. The object of this research is the text of the Ehirit-Bulagat Uliger “Abai Geser Hubun” by M. Imegenov, which is considered most archaic, and thus, least susceptible to Buddhist influence. The subject of this research is the Buddhist motifs reflected in the epic narrative. The article also employs the texts of other Buryat Uligers as a comparative material. Special attention is given to the semantic analysis of the motifs under review. The author provides the historical data and refers the comparative-typological method. It is determined that the Buddhist motifs ingrained into the texts of Western Buryat Geseriada function on a surface semantic level and do not affect the narrative framework of the epic. The conclusion is made that the Ehirit-Bulagat version of Geseriada, unlike Unging versions, is less susceptiple to Buddhist influence; therefore, the research in such context allows understanding the peculiarities of the Buryat Geseriada as a whole, and furthermore, the disclosure of the key mechanisms of plot transformation of the Central Asian epic tradition.

Reception of the novel “What is to be Done?” by N. G. Chernyshevsky: “new people” in the Soviet dramaturgy of the 1920s – 1930s
// Philology: scientific researches.

DOI: 10.7256/2454-0749.2021.2.33266 URL: https://en.nbpublish.com/library_read_article.php?id=33266
Abstract:
The goal of this research is to reveal the peculiarities of reception of the novel “What is to be Done?” by N. G. Chernyshevsky in the Soviet dramaturgy of the 1920s – 1930s. These texts fully reflect the concept of state order, the pursuance of “socialist realist” normatization, and thus, most vividly demonstrate the specificity of functionality of the fundamental mythological concepts in semantic field of the Soviet literature. Particular attention is given to the plays by V. N. Bill-Belocerkovskij and A. Glebov. The article also employs the works of A. Neverov, V. Vishnevsky, A. Afinogenov, who largely determined the dramaturgical image of their time. The work is conducted within the framework of the mythopoetic approach, using structural-semiotic and intertextual methods. The relevance is substantiated by the need for a more comprehensive examination of the literary discourse of the 1920s – 1930s. The scientific novelty consists in attraction of an array of little studied texts of the “official” Soviet dramaturgy for identification of the cultural and literary sources of the image of “new people”, which determined the functionality of this mythologem in the literary discourse of the 1920s – 1930s. The conducted research demonstrated that in the period of post-revolutionary culture, the novel “What is to be Done?” by N. G. Chernyshevsky acquires the status of a sacred text, becomes the focus of intertextual overlap of dramaturgical texts, as well as one of the foundations for the formation of the Communist myth of the “new people” common to literature of that time. The works of the official Soviet playwrights are characterized by the declaration of continuity with regards to the novel, which in their works is demonstrated on the level of plot, themes, ideas, particular images, and separated details.

Abstract:
The relevance of this research is defined by the scientific significance of the problem of Germany-Russia relations as an important factor of cross-cultural interaction. Dresden has imprinted hundreds of Russian names. This found reflection in the novel “Vision” by E. T. A. Hoffmannn, inspired by the experiences during his life in Dresden. The German romanticist appeared to be in the center of anti-Napoleonic War for a few month in 1813. Hoffmann also expressed his emotions in letters, diary notes, and publicistic texts. The “Unfathomable Event” of the novella “Vision” allowed avoiding unambiguity of explanation of the “fatal, difficult, and turbulent time”, as well as preserving the magic of the fantastic. It is noted that E. T. A. Hoffmann described in the novel and related texts the situations borrowed from life, reminiscences of the parlous Dresden days. At the same time, he highlighted the liberation mission of the Russian troops. Special attention is given to application of the so-called Serapiontic principle, which implies the transformation of reality in the consciousness of the imaginative nature. The novelty of this research consists in observation that the fantastic event described in the novel, turned Hoffmann into the “translator” of the meaning of feat of the Russian participants of the Liberation wars in the language of images. Such approach presented the peculiarities of development of the Russian theme and Russian literary images in the works of the German romanticist in the historical perspective.

Models of nomination of peasants in the Business writing style of the Yeniseian Siberia of the XVII century
// Philology: scientific researches.

DOI: 10.7256/2454-0749.2021.2.34968 URL: https://en.nbpublish.com/library_read_article.php?id=34968
Abstract:
The object of this research is the anthroponymycon of the regional artifacts of business writing style of the second half of the XVII century. The subject is the model of nomination of persons belonging to the peasant class that played a significant role in the formation of permanent population of this territory. The article employs the unpublished manuscripts of business content, preserved in the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (Moscow). Application of the traditional onomastics research methods alongside modeling techniques, the author conducts the analysis of structural peculiarities of anthroponymyc models of nomination of peasants; determines the place and role of additional identifiers of a person (names of persons by the degree of kinship, profession, and initial place of residence). The acquired results demonstrate that the absence of the single legal norm in documental writing style led to variations in the use of anthroponymyc structures for nomination of the same person, and the use of additional identifiers – to creation of the more complex descriptive structures. It is established that the last component for nomination of a person in any model could include bynames and family names of peremptory origin, passed from father to son, which reflects the initial stage of the formation of last names on the periphery of the Moscow State. The scientific novelty consists in introduction into the scientific discourse of unpublished sources and anthroponymyc records into, which allows broadening the knowledge on the composition of the socially limited regional anthroponymycon of the XVII century.

“Own” and “alien” space in the novel “Dead Men Walking” by Steve Lyons
// Philology: scientific researches.

DOI: 10.7256/2454-0749.2021.2.33345 URL: https://en.nbpublish.com/library_read_article.php?id=33345
Abstract:
The subject of this research is the peculiarities of organization of space in the novel “Dead Men Walking” by Steve Lyons from the perspective opposition “own – alien”. The research employs the cultural-historical method and comparative analysis. The article examines the peculiarities of perception of space in the novel. The basic conflict is association with intervention of the alien civilization on the planet of people. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the war erases the boundaries of “own” and “alien”, each of parties to the conflict has reason to believe that the planet is “their own”. The characters of the novel are divided into “living” and “dead”, which complicates the conflict and organization of space even more. Space in the literary text is the subject of multiple scientific articles. However, the works dedicated to examination of space in S. Lyons’ novel are not featured in modern literary studies, which defines the scientific novelty of this research. The conclusion is drawn that for humanity and for alien civilization space is simultaneously “own” and “alien”, since other civilization existed on the planet for a long time prior to the arrival of humans. Moreover, the organization of space is complicated by the arrival of human forces of rom other planet, who were unfamiliar with the concept of “own” space at all, which affects the course of war and determines the fate of the characters in the novel. Such approach demonstrates that the concept of “own” and “alien” in the novel is vague due to the fact that it is impossible to unambiguously attribute the planet neither to “own” nor “alien” space.
