Abstract: The subject of the study is the genre-semantic specificity of F. A. Iskander's animalistic prose. The object of research is four of his works: "Rooster", "Uncle Kazim's Horse", "The Story of the mule of the old Habug" and "Broad–brow". The author examines in detail such aspects of the topic as the peculiarities of the functioning of animal images, as well as fable and novelistic features in the poetics of Iskander's animalistic works. The influence of the novel genre determines the interest in the unique and the presence of affective contradiction. Hidden didacticism, expressed in the recurring motif of separation of man and animal, and poorly structured detailing refer to the genre of fable. Special attention is paid to the genesis of the above-mentioned phenomena. The author made the following conclusions. Firstly, the animalistic images of Iskander do not have obvious folklore roots: animals do not perform the function of a magical assistant, their intelligence is not connected with the cult of ancestors or werewolves. Secondly, the allegorical nature of the narrative is destroyed due to psychologism in the description of animals. A special contribution of the author to the study is the comparison of Iskander 's animalism with the works of Ch. Darwin. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that several well-established positions among Iskander scholars have been reinterpreted. Firstly, the analyzed works of Iskander are not just short stories, but are a synthesis of a short story and a fable. Secondly, the analogism of animals and humans, the ability of animals to metaphysical reflection are not an individual feature of Iskander's poetics, but are due to the influence of the works of Ch. Darwin. Thirdly, an attempt has been made to challenge the well-established opinion that animals in Iskander's works are more moral than people. In fact, they are true to the natural laws that people have stopped following. Iskander portrays the political regime as an aggressive biological environment, to which it is more difficult for animals to adapt than for humans. The analysis of Iskander's work clearly shows that Darwinism gives scope for new interpretations of literary animalism.

Abstract: In her paper Fedorova analyzes English-speaking neologisms used within the framework of such a functional and stylistic variety of modern English as the style of mass communication. Neologisms, selected from materials of online media, are analyzed from the point of view of word-formation models according to which they are formed, in order to identify the most productive of them. The practical significance of the work is due to the fact that the results and selected language material can be used for scientific and educational purposes, for example, in the preparation of monographs and textbooks on the theory of translation, lexicology of the English language, etc., in practical classes, seminars on relevant topics, and also in the professional field when translating relevant language material. The researcher has used the methods of continuous sampling, linguistic observation and description, contextual analysis and quantitative counting. The author determined the quantitative ratio of word-formation models and means characteristic of English-language media texts in the present period. The obtained data are compared with the data of foreign researchers who worked with similar language material. The analysis of the language material showed that the composition and merging remain the most productive ways to form new words in the English language. A further increase in the number of semantic neologisms is predicted.

Abstract: The subject of the research is the semiotic conceptualizatino of a somatic object 'hair' (on one's head) as a kind of bodily cover. According to the authors, semiotic conceptualization of hair involves a) analysis of the ideas on hair represented by Russian-speakers and representatives of Russian culture, in particular, their views on the role of hair in the formation of one's appearance and their aesthetic function, b) description of the main characteristics of hair, and c) peculiarities of how these features are expressed in the Russian language and Russian non-verbal code. The research method used by the author is the feature approach that implies sequential analysis and description of structural, physical and functional attributes of hair, the role of these attributes and the ways of their expression in communication. The authors of the article analyze the semantic structure of the word 'hair' and describes somatic signs and gestures that involve hair. Special attention is paid to the feature of the cultural symbolization of hair reflected in Russian proverbs. The scientific novelty of the research is caused both by the authors' selection of the research subject because it is the first research devoted to the object and word 'hair' in the sphere of linguistics and non-verbal semiotics and by the authors' application of a multi-modal approach that allows to define the relationship between signs of Russian verbal and non-verbal codes. The results of the research complete and clarify data of Russian explanatory and gesture dictionaries and the methodology used by the authors represents a universal model for further researches on semiotic conceptualization of body and physicality.
